Intended Use

For the quantitative in vitro determination of lactate dehydrogenase in serum and plasma. This product is suitable for use on the Hitachi 717, Hitachi 911 and Hitachi 912.

Clinical Significance

Lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) is a general marker of tissue damage and is often used to determine the root cause and location of damage.

Increased levels of LDH in the blood are an indication of tissue damage; elevated levels are seen in a wide range of conditions including stroke, kidney disease, liver disease, muscular dystrophy, cancer, myocardial, intestinal and pulmonary infarction. Low levels are not of clinical significance.

NAD and Lactate are converted in equimolar amounts at the same rate to form pyruvate and NADH. The rate at which NADH is formed is determined by an increase in absorbance and is directly proportional to enzyme activity.
